Welcome to the Proverbs 31 Wanna-Be Club. As noted in the first installment of the club, my goal is to break Proverbs 31:10-31 down to find out exactly what her characteristics are, find out what areas of my life need extra work, and figure out how to go about becoming a wife who is “worth far more than rubies”. Proverbs 31: 13.
She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands. (NIV)
Meticulous & Enthusiastic.
I find this verse quite interesting, for one thing, she is selecting wool and flax (a plant used to make linen). I know that for myself when I am shopping for material, I don’t chose with my eyes only. There are many things to look for such as imperfections, washing requirements, and will it do the job for the project at hand and price.
When she is selecting the wool and flax, I think she is being cautious in her decision-making. For me, when I’m being particular about something, I take my time before making a decision. Yet, she’s eager to work with her hands, she’s enthusiastic and for some (myself included) that means she’s impatient and restless. She’s ready to get straight to work!
Sometimes it’s difficult to look at your work with eagerness or enthusiasm. Who wakes up in the early morning hours and jumps to her feet ready to tackle today’s tasks? Certainly not I, not until I pray to God asking for that enthusiasm. Even still there are some days where I have to stop and remind myself of Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,”
Conclusion:
This week, I’m learning that the Proverbs 31 woman is quite the balanced individual. She knows when to slow down and when to dive right in. She doesn’t hurry through decision or drag her feet with her work but just the opposite.
Lots to pray about this week. I’m very thankful God has led me into starting this series here. He is using this chapter to show me many things that I’m doing alright with and other things that need some extra work. We’re all masterpieces in the making.

The Proverbs 31 wife. Such a wonderful mentor, yet at times she seems so unattainable. There are times when I feel as if I am on the right track, and times I feel I am failing miserably! At least no matter what, we have God to help us and His Word to keep us going. Thanks for the encouragement this morning. Now I feel like I need to go make something, lol. When I don’t see myself following behind her example as much as I’d like… knowing both her & I have faith in God, at least I’ve got that part right.

I love your comment, “She knows when to slow down and when to dive right in.” We too often think of the Proverbs 31 woman just doing, doing, doing. It’s encouraging to know she uses God given wisdom and slows down when needed. Thanks so much for linking up at Counting My Blessings.
